New Liposuction Techniques

New technology and techniques has made navigating cosmetic surgery options more difficult than ever before. Liposuction in particular has undergone numerous changes over the years, resulting in a wide array of effective techniques, each with positive and negative aspects. Here are the latest offerings you're bound to run into and what to expect from them.

Smart Lipo

This technique uses lasers to break up fat cells, liquefying them for easier removal. During the procedure, a cannula is inserted into a small incision in the area to be treated. The cannula beams out the laser through the cells. Once the fat has been liquefied, it is then vacuumed out and the incision is then sutured shut. Smart Lipo decreases bleeding, uses a small incision, is very precise, and has a short recovery time.

PAL

This method is an acronym for Power Assisted Liposuction. Surgeons use a vibrating cannula that helps break up the cells more effectively and quickly than by using manual operation alone.

An incision is made in the area to be sculpted and then liquid anesthetic is injected to allow for easier cannula movement, less bleeding, and less tissue damage. This method uses smaller incisions than traditional liposuction and allows the surgeon to sculpt the area more accurately. PAL tends to remove more fat than traditional methods and is successful at targeting areas that contain more fibrous cells such as the back and male breasts.

Slim Lipo

This is a fairly new technique that is aiming to compete with Smart Lipo. Slim liposuction is considered less invasive than traditional methods and much like Smart Lipo, uses a laser to liquefy the fat for easier removal. Much like other liposuction methods, the results of this largely depend on the skill of the surgeon. Slim Lipo claims to have less bleeding and a speedier recovery time than other procedures available.

Cool Lipo

This procedure can be performed in-office, often with only a mild anesthesia. A small incision is made and a cannula containing an attached laser is inserted. The laser uses Cool Lipo energy to melt the fat and then another cannula sucks the excess out of the body. This is another new technique that claims to be faster, more cost effective, and more efficient than traditional methods.

The benefit of these new techniques over traditional method are smaller incisions, shorter recovery times, less risks and potential complications, and faster results; however, the outcome of any lipo procedure depends on the skill of the surgeon and his experience with the method. Whichever procedure you choose, be sure to find a qualified and well-trained surgeon that has performed the process successfully on many different patients.

And although some techniques may be safer than others, consult with your surgeon about which is the best for your expectations, goals, and individual situation.
